Career Boost (Uraloikka)
Career Boost is a service provided by International House Joensuu that supports immigrants in finding employment. The coaching program is intended for Russian-speaking immigrants living in Joensuu who need support in entering the Finnish labour market.
The service is suitable for people who:
- are at the early stages of learning Finnish
- have little or no experience of Finnish working life
- have little or no experience of job seeking in Finland
- are highly motivated to find employment in Finland
- would benefit from personal guidance in Russian
What does Career Boost offer?
Career Boost provides practical employment coaching both in group sessions and through individual coaching. Participants in group coaching may also take part in individual coaching. Individual coaching appointments are also available in situations where a client has an opportunity to obtain employment with the support of an employment subsidy, and participation in coaching is a prerequisite for employment.
In Career Boost participants:
- learn about the rules, practices, and expectations of Finnish working life
- become familiar with job-search tools and methods
- identify and articulate their skills and competencies together with a coach
- create an up-to-date and professional CV
- prepare applications for jobs and educational programs
- receive support in contacting employers and educational institutions when needed
- visit workplaces and practise self-introduction and networking skills (also in group settings)
- receive language support for job interviews and workplace orientation

Luotsi
Luotsi Joensuu is a place where you can come with any questions related to employment, education, or career planning. Luotsi’s experts can help you, for example, with job searching, preparing your CV and other application documents, and getting ready for job interviews. Through Luotsi, you can also participate in events, coaching sessions, and courses that support your employment. Your personal situation is always the starting point, and together we will look for a suitable path towards working life.
Luotsi offers several services specifically designed for immigrants in the early stages of integration and employment, including:
- guidance and counselling for immigrants
- initial assessment
- integration plan
- integration training
The service points of Luotsi and International House Joensuu are located in Carelicum. At the service points, you can use a customer computer, for example, to look for job vacancies or to submit an online job application. You can also print materials related to job searching, studying, and training.
Luotsi’s experts serve customers in Finnish and English. An interpreter can also be booked for meetings.
In the same building, you will find Ohjaamo for young people, which offers guidance for those under 30 on planning their future and handling everyday matters.
The services of Luotsi and Ohjaamo are free of charge.

Business Joensuu’s Services for Businesses
Business Joensuu’s free business start-up training supports people who have moved to Finland from abroad in all matters related to entrepreneurship. You will receive coaching and guidance both for starting a business and for developing your business operations. The service languages are Finnish and English, and interpreting services are available when needed, so you can receive general business advice in your own language.
Training is provided through personal meetings as well as group sessions, giving you the opportunity to network with others in a similar situation.
Business Joensuu provides support in starting a business, for example in:
- Sparring related to the requirements of starting a business and managing official procedures
- Applying for start-up grants and exploring other funding opportunities
- Preparing a business plan and profitability calculations
Through Business Joensuu’s networks, you can find the key stakeholders relevant to your business activities. You will also receive information on taxation, accounting legislation, and insurance, as well as sparring to develop your business idea into profitable operations.
