About us

We provide guidance and advice on issues related to immigration, integration, and refugee reception for municipal employees, partners, and other stakeholders. We work actively in cooperation with networks that support integration.

Services for Partners

We share our integration expertise in integration work with municipal workers, partners, and other operators. We provide guidance and advice on matters related to immigration and integration. We can also act as your partner when you need expertise in integration and immigration work alongside your own competence.
We actively cooperate with various operators and stakeholders to promote the integration of people who have moved to Joensuu from abroad. We also act as a forerunner in integration work in North Karelia and throughout Finland.

We are always interested in new cooperation partners and opportunities. You can reach us by email — feel free to get in touch!

We offer training, for example, on:

  • the use of interpretation services
  • serving immigrant customers
  • receiving quota refugees
  • and other matters related to integration and immigration.

Welcome to North Karelia!

International House Joensuu manages the regional Stay and Live in North Karelia – Elä ja Osallistu Pohjois-Karjalassa (ELO) project in cooperation with other project partners, including the municipalities of Liperi, Kontiolahti, Nurmes, Juuka, Kitee, Outokumpu, Lieksa, Ilomantsi, and Tohmajärvi, as well as the Regional Council of North Karelia.
The aim of the project is to improve the availability of workforce in North Karelia by strengthening settlement services for newcomers moving from abroad and supporting their long-term attachment to the region.

Each municipality provides its own integration services for its residents. For residents of Ilomantsi and Tohmajärvi, residence permit advice is available from a residence permit specialist based in Joensuu.

We promote our goals by offering support and services that help immigrants settle, build networks, and establish their lives in North Karelia. The project enhances local cooperation and supports networks that help immigrants integrate into their communities.

We work in close cooperation with the Work in North Karelia (WiNK) project.
Learn more about WiNK here (in Finnish).

The ELO project runs from 1 January 2025 to 30 June 2027. It is co-funded by the European Social Fund.
